Alternative Hemorrhoid Treatments

Hemorrhoids are an inflammation of the veins in and around the anus. This uncomfortable condition can happen to many people and for many various reasons.

External hemorrhoids are the ones that leave a slight bulge on the outside of the anus. They are not only very uncomfortable and itchy but painful as well.

Internal hemorrhoids are the inflammation that happens inside of the anus walls. The internal types are not quite as painful as the external but they do have a slight chance of bleeding to occur.

Straining the tissues during a bowel movement is one of the largest leading contributors to the inflammation caused by hemorrhoids. Obesity, pregnancy and even blood pressure could also play a role in a person having them.

There are several alternative hemorrhoids treatments that can be done at home.

Witch hazel is one of the more popular alternative hemorrhoid treatments. It helps in easing the discomfort of a hemorrhoid flare up. Dabbing a little witch hazel onto a cotton ball or even onto toilet paper and using it as a wipe can help to stop the itching and pain that the inflammation is known to cause.

Aloe Vera is a well known plant that has been part of many home remedies for centuries. Aloe Vera gel is another great alternative hemorrhoid treatment. Using a soft tissue or cotton ball that is saturated with the gel and applying it to the inflamed area can be done as many times as needed throughout the day. The gel can be purchased in a pure gel form from many drug stores. It can also be obtained through the leaves of an aloe plant.
